Pageant of Peace Heritage

The Kansas Ornament Collection
is affliliated with the National Christmas Tree & State Trees in Washington D.C. Pageant of Peace.
    The President and First Lady of the United States light the National Tree in a nationally-televised Pageant of Peace ceremony each December.
     Surrounding the National Tree are state trees, also lighted. Over 20,00 persons traditionally attend the ceremony in President’s Park. Thousands more view trees as they remain lighted for nightly viewing each evening through December.
    The tradition of lighting the National Tree is over 75 years old. In 1981, another tradition began—that of having the small trees surrounding the National Tree decorated by representatives in each state.
